When selecting the mating materials, the operating conditions and, above all, the operating medium in which the mating material and the plain bearing have to operate must be taken into account. The deva.metal® sliding bearings are basically selected to be corrosion-resistant for the given conditions. However, they cannot transfer their corrosion and rust protection to the mating material. This point must be taken into account whenever there is a risk of rust or corrosion (for example, when the bearings are working in humid air, in water or in the air-water alternating zone). In such cases it is recommended to use a stainless steel. Material No. 1.4057 (X 22 Cr Ni 17) is usually sufficient for normal rust resistance requirements. Material No. 1.4122 (X 35 CrMo 17) offers favorable conditions in terms of running properties, machining and tempering. If no special corrosion protection is provided for the mating material; a maintenance-free bearing unit can only be achieved by combining stainless steel with the Deva plain bearing.
